Ana María Sarlat
Ana María Sarlat (Campeche, México, 1959) is an interdisciplinary artist and poet, born in Campeche, Mexico in 1959 of Cuban mother and Mexican father. She was taken to Cuba by her mother and grandmother and then back to Mexico in 1964 and then Miami, Florida where she now works and resides. Her family moved to Brooklyn, New York at the age of five. While Ana Maria lived in Brooklyn she studied Ballet and Flamenco with the Margarita Parlá Dance Company and danced as a soloist in Carnegie Hall at the age of seven. She also began to write poetry at the age of eight. As a self-taught artist, she began seriously painting in 1980. In 1994 she was accepted at the Margulies Taplin Art Gallery in Coral Gables and her work is included in the Margulies Family Collection. ln 1992 she exhibited in the Long lsland Museum of art in an exhibition “Cuban Painters in Exile,” and her work has now been included in three exhibitions in 2011 at the “Sangre de Cristo Art Center” in Pueblo Colorado. She is included in the documentary “Los Pintores Cubanos, ll Siglos de Pintura”, a documentary by film director Roberto Jorge Cayuso, Ana Maria Sarlat’s work is collected by distinguished collectors in the United States as well as internationally.
