Kendall Art Cultural Center

The Kendall Art Cultural Center is proud to announce the third installment of our ongoing annual program, Women Artists in the Rodríguez Collection with invited artist Gladys Triana in Gladys Triana in PERSPECTIVE. This collective exhibition of works by women artists from Leonardo Rodríguez's permanent collection, celebrates the important contributions these women have made to the arts with their innovation and creativity. The artwork in this exhibition showcases the work of women across generations; emphasizing the differences in style, expression and subject matter, which help us understand the unique vision and visual language inherent in each artist's work.

Furthermore, this variety of media, styles and genres show that there is no "female art," rather that the art made by women is able to convey different cultural and social ideas about beauty, gender, class and power. This exhibition, originally curated by Maria Banos in 2020, is not simply concentrating on art, but rather was conceived as a tool with which to advocate for better representation for women artists. Women Artists in the Rodríguez Collection is constantly expanding with the work in the Rodríguez Ceramics Collection, in which 12 women artists have created ceramic sculptures, plates and installation, now on display in tandem with the traditional works of these artists for the first time.

Every year the Kendall Art Cultural Center highlights an invited artist as part of its "Women in the Rodríguez Collection presents." The exposition, Gladys Triana in PERSPECTIVE displays a careful selection of works that demonstrates the artists' fruitful and prolific career. The curation of her paintings, drawings, photography and ceramic works act as a complete overview of Triana's trajectory as an artist.

"In my work," states the artist, "movement and fragmentation are essential. Like a dance, these geometric forms

coalesce, merge, disperse, and distribute themselves across the page, evoking an immutable kineticism that

reflects life itself and serves as the building blocks of the composition. I chose colors that I don’t typically work with to highlight our new variegated landscapes, both internal and external. The dynamics of these geometric forms

come from a deep appreciation of human spirituality and an emphasis on the poetic foundation of my artistic life.

I embraced this opportunity to express my optimism and freedom to create

during the destruction that surrounded us."

Women Artists in The Rodríguez Collection also features the work of well-known artists such as Ana Albertina, Angela Alés, Consuelo Castañeda, Antonia Eiriz, Ivonne Ferrer, Flora Fong, Marlys Fuego, Lia Galletti, Rocio Garcia, Aimée Joaristi, Allison Kotzig, Milena Martínez Pedrosa, Amelia Peláez, Gina Pellón, Aimee Peréz, Sandra Ramos, Zaida del Río, Lisyanet Rodríguez, Rossitch, Ana Maria Sarlat, Loló Soldevilla and Gladys Triana among others. 

 

The Kendall Art Cultural Center (KACC) aims to educate and create an ongoing dialogue with the public in the concepts of contemporary art and its role in society. By exhibiting the work of emerging, established and international, as well as local artists, the K.A.C.C. fosters education that stimulates critical thinking and art appreciation. Activities focus on works of art in the collection and special exhibitions. Through discussion, research, and  art making, we hope to encourage and foster conversation between students, artists and the community at large.
